01/26/12 HRCA's 5th Annual Open House on Feb. 2
The 2012-13 admissions season is underway at Haw River Christian Academy (HRCA) for re-enrollees, siblings, and corporation members until January 31. On February 2, HRCA will host its annual Open House event, 5:30-7:30 P.M., to provide prospective families with the opportunity to learn more about this non-denominational, private school in Chatham County. Applications from the general public can be submitted beginning on February 1.
HRCA has experienced extensive growth since it opened in August 2008, doubling in size each of the first 3 years and nearly at capacity in each grade in the current school year. Approximately 12% of its growth stems from families relocating to Chatham County from out-of-state or other areas of North Carolina. The school leased the education wing of Rock Spring Baptist Church, just north of Pittsboro on 15-501, as a starting point for founding and growing the school. Given the pace of growth, HRCA’s Long Range Planning team began researching potential locations one year ago, narrowing down its interest to a 12,000 square foot vacant building on 50 West Salisbury Street in downtown Pittsboro. A Special Use permit was submitted to the Town of Pittsboro on August 2, 2011. Since that time, the school has participated in five town meetings and spent approximately $15,000 in architectural fees, civil engineer fees, and a professional traffic study in order to meet all of the criteria required by the town’s decision makers. Building inspectors, the fire marshall, and other experts have also been asked for their input on the project. On February 6, the school’s application will revisit the Planning Board and then the following week, February 13, a public hearing has been opened with the Town Commissioners preparing for a final vote.

01/22/11 4th Annual Open House
4th ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE AT HAW RIVER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
The new year rings in the season for private school admissions around the country. Locally, admissions for the 2011-12 school year is already underway at Haw River Christian Academy (HRCA). Re-enrollment, sibling, and corporation members’ admissions take place until January 31. On February 1, admissions will open to the general public. To allow prospective families the opportunity to learn more about HRCA and meet with the administration, teachers, and board members, an Open House will be held on Thursday, February 3 from 5:30-7:30 P.M.
For the 2011-12 school year, HRCA will serve grades Junior Kindergarten (half-day) through Sixth grade, completing the Grammar School phase one year ahead of the school’s original plans. The school’s vision and mission is to add one grade per year until serving grades JK-12. Enrollment has doubled each year of its existence, as local families take notice of the numerous benefits a Classical Christian Education has to offer, including rigorous academics blended with a Christian worldview, a uniform code, and an emphasis on Christian values and traditional manners.
12/01/10 HRCA Supports Salvation Army
Haw River Christian Academy (HRCA) presented a monetary donation to the Pittsboro Salvation Army on Tuesday, November 30. Students raised money for their 2nd annual school walkathon, in which a portion of the proceeds were dedicated to this local charity. Increased enrollment in the 2010-11 school year, doubling the student body, enabled HRCA to raise twice the amount for this local organization since 2009.
HRCA is grateful to many members and businesses in Chatham County for their support through donations and event participation. In its third year of operation, teaching and successfully operating on a limited budget, HRCA continues to strive to illustrate the importance of giving back to the community in this season of thankfulness and cheerful giving.
The Salvation Army is an international non-profit organization. Locally, with a full-time staff and group of volunteers, this organization is able to serve Chatham County from two locations based in Pittsboro and Siler City. They address many needs throughout the year, with their greatest service being provided through their year-end “Christmas Cheer” program. This year’s program has received a very high number of applications from families seeking assistance this Christmas. Of the approximately 800 applications received thus far, an estimated 2,000 children are facing a lack of basic needs here in Chatham County. Simple contributions like canned goods and clothing can be delivered to the Pittsboro office, located downtown at 200 Sanford Road, Suite 1. Checks (mailed to P.O. Box 752, Pittsboro, NC 27312) can also be donated for the Salvation Army to purchase the items of greatest need. All donations are eligible for tax-deductible receipts.
04/27/10 Academy Exceeds Plans for Fall 2010 & 1st Annual Science Fair & Art Gala
Haw River Christian Academy (HRCA), which opened in 2008, remains on track with its goal of adding one grade level per year until serving grades K-12. In January, the school announced plans to open grade 4 this Fall. Due to increased interest and enrollment, the school is expanding its plans by also adding grade 5 for the 2010-11 school year.
Admissions for grades K-5 is underway, with limited seating available in all grades. Tuition for half-day kindergarten is $3,600 and $4,600 for grades 1-5. In addition to its regular classes, HRCA offers Art, Music, and Latin classes for home schoolers on a weekly basis throughout the school year. The cost is $40/month for Art or Music, $50/month for Latin, or $75/month for two classes.
This Spring, the school hosted its first annual Science Fair and Art Show. Pastor Chris Gambos of New Salem Church, Mrs. Trish Routt of Our Animal Love In-Home Pet Care, and Mr. Mike Hanson served as judges. Students in grades 1-3 participated with awards given to Riley Butler (1st grade - Best Overall Project), Harris Sparks (1st grade - Best Scientific Method), and Caleb Hyman (3rd grade - Best Biblical Application).

01/19/10 Open House at HRCA
Haw River Christian Academy looks ahead to its third year while Chatham County takes notice. In a year’s time, the school’s student enrollment has doubled and the benefits of its teaching are being recognized by many local families. The public is invited to see firsthand how this new school is becoming a unique, educational alternative for the community. Its upcoming Open House is scheduled for Thursday, February 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the school’s current facility, Rock Springs Baptist Church. This event serves as an excellent venue for interested families to tour the school facility, view student work, talk with faculty, and meet parents of enrolled students.
Haw River Christian Academy (HRCA) eagerly begins its third academic school year in the Fall of 2010. It has come a long way in a few short years as Chatham County’s premier classical Christian school. HRCA seeks to educate students with excellent classical academics that are taught as an integrated whole, with the Scriptures at the center serving as the hub of all knowledge. As a result, students learn to interrelate and examine knowledge, allowing them to view their studies as a unified effort. Its classical teaching methodology blended with a biblical worldview, uniform code, and emphasis on Christian values and traditional manners is making it an attractive educational option.
