Haw River Christian Academy (HRCA), which opened in 2008, remains on track with its goal of adding one grade level per year until serving grades K-12. In January, the school announced plans to open grade 4 this Fall. Due to increased interest and enrollment, the school is expanding its plans by also adding grade 5 for the 2010-11 school year.
Admissions for grades K-5 is underway, with limited seating available in all grades. Tuition for half-day kindergarten is $3,600 and $4,600 for grades 1-5. In addition to its regular classes, HRCA offers Art, Music, and Latin classes for home schoolers on a weekly basis throughout the school year. The cost is $40/month for Art or Music, $50/month for Latin, or $75/month for two classes.
This Spring, the school hosted its first annual Science Fair and Art Show. Pastor Chris Gambos of New Salem Church, Mrs. Trish Routt of Our Animal Love In-Home Pet Care, and Mr. Mike Hanson served as judges. Students in grades 1-3 participated with awards given to Riley Butler (1st grade - Best Overall Project), Harris Sparks (1st grade - Best Scientific Method), and Caleb Hyman (3rd grade - Best Biblical Application).
(Best Overall Project: Riley Butler, 1st Grade)
(Best Scientific Method: Harris Sparks, 1st Grade)
(Best Biblical Application: Caleb Hyman, 3rd Grade)
On Friday, May 14, the school will host its 3rd annual fundraising golf tournament at The Preserve Golf and Country Club near Jordan Lake. Golfers (individual players or teams) may register on-line at www.HawRiverChristian.org. The event includes breakfast (sponsored by Al’s Diner), 18 holes of golf, putting green, driving range, golf cart, goody bag, beverage cart and snacks, contests, raffle drawings, winning prizes, and a buffet lunch in the clubhouse. Sponsorships are still available for local businesses seeking advertising that benefits a great cause.
This Summer, HRCA staff, board members, and parents will be attending the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS) national conference in Durham on June 17-19. This is a great resource for prospective families in Chatham County who are considering classical Christian education.
For more information about admissions, the golf tournament, or the ACCS conference, please contact the school office at 919-533-4139 or visit www.HawRiverChristian.org. Families who are interested in applying for admissions are also encouraged to schedule a school tour.
