Your logo is intriguing, what does it mean?

Haw River Christian Academy fosters an environment where children are taught to think and that is embodied in our logo. Different people see different images when they look at the logo, as the logo is a Bible, sailboats on the water, or even waves on the river. While it's easy to make the connection between a Bible and a Classical Christian School, the sailboats and waves don't have an evident direct correlation. Classical Christian education teaches all subjects as part of an integrated whole with scripture as the light by which everything is seen allowing the connections between disparate images and HRCA.

The fact that there are three images contained in upper part of the logo is no coincidence, as they map directly to the academic approach called the Trivium. The Trivium consists of three phases - grammar, logic, and rhetoric. The Bible image in the logo is symbolic of the grammar phase. During the grammar phase, the children will be learning facts and information that will build the foundation of knowledge for their education.

Next the children will progress into the logic phase. This relates to the sailboat image in the logo. Most Christian parents sing "Peter, James and John in a sailboat" with their children and are familiar with the verse "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19) With the learning of logic, children are taught how to analyze an argument, identify any fallacies and present the reasons why the argument is false. As a result of the logic training, the students examine the argument that Jesus Christ is Lord and find the argument irrefutable.

As students move on to the rhetoric phase, they are taught the art of communicating well. This is embodied in the logo with the waves, as they are moving away from each other, parting the sea. During the rhetoric phase, students are honing their skills in preparation to defend their faith and allow God to perform great works through them. Upon completion, students are prepared to be more than leaders in society; they will be trained to be like David. In 1 Samuel 17, David is a shepherd boy who delivers bread and cheese to his brothers who are part of Saul's army. When David arrives, he finds Goliath taunting the army. While the other men are afraid, David is steadfast in God and volunteers to fight Goliath. David is surrounded by men who are saying "Goliath is so big, how can I possibly win", but with God on his side David says "Goliath is so big, how can I possibly miss?" HRCA instills in children, that through God all things are possible; from parting seas to moving mountains, our graduates will be equipped to do just that in society.

However, the discussion of our logo does not end there. The yellow cross is a symbol of God's unending love for his people. He laid down his life for us on the cross and we are healed by his sacrifice. The cross can also be interrelated as a sword since we are Warriors for Christ. Finally, our school name is taken from the river which unites Chatham County, North Carolina. The Haw River is represented abstractly in the free form dual color blue designs.

As you can see by the design of our school logo, God is included in every area of our school life and we are eager to share this biblical world view with our students.
