RHETORIC SCHOOL
Grades 9-12
Rhetoric is the art of communicating well. Once a student has obtained a knowledge of the facts and developed the skills necessary to arrange those facts into arguments, he must develop the skill of communicating those arguments to others (rhetoric).
Classical education helps students develop their minds to think and articulate concepts to others. Writing papers, researching, and orating ideas are skills required in all subjects. In these grade levels, the goal is to create a well-rounded student who can communicate effectively. We leverage these skills through the final requirement of the defense of a senior thesis.
In the Rhetoric stage, students are naturally drawn to articulate their own ideas and share their perspectives with others. They have a strong desire to influence, inspire, and persuade those around them, seeking meaningful ways to make their voices count. This stage fosters the ability to integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, allowing students to form coherent and sophisticated understandings of complex topics. They are increasingly interested in exploring fundamental questions about truth, justice, beauty, and purpose. Creative expression—through writing, speaking, or other media—becomes a preferred avenue for communication, and many are motivated to take on leadership roles or contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.
